Monday: Lecture Quiz & Diffusion Lab Prelab writeup as class, set up potato portion of lab
Tuesday: Finish Osmosis & Diffusion Lab
Wednesday: Enzyme lab?
Thursday: Enzyme lab? and Formal Lab write up as a class
Friday: Mitosis Lab & Review
Monday will be the test over Cells (Ch. 6-8 & 11)!!!
We are still waiting on the catalase for the enzyme lab to arrive, but it should be here this week.

Your Homework - Due 9/18/09
Using only your books and notes answer the following questions as completely as possible.
1. Enzymes are biological catalysts.
a. Relate the chemical structure of an enzyme to its specificity and catalytic activity.
b. Design a quantitative experiment to investigate the influence of pH or temperature
on the activity of an enzyme.
c. Describe what information concerning the structure of an enzyme could be inferred
from your experiment.
2. Cells transport substances across their membranes. Choose THREE of the following four types of cellular transport.
Osmosis
Active transport
Facilitated diffusion
Endocytosis/exocytosis
For each of the three transport types you choose,
a) describe the transport process and explain how the organization of cell membranes functions in the movement of specific molecules across the membrane; and
b) explain the significance of each type of transport to a specific cell (you may use different cell types as examples.)
